Month9Books Turns Two! (Guest Post from Dorothy Dreyer + Giveaway)

Friday, October 31, 2014

Month9Books is turning two! Wee! And to celebrate, they have a HUGE (and I mean, a Kindle, anyone?) giveaway for everyone who has supported their titles for the past years. And of course, for those who haven't read any titles of theirs, now is the perfect time to start! To kick off the celebrations, here's a message from Georgia McBride, owner of Month9Books!

“Month9Books is turning 2 this year and I could not be happier. We are living proof that if you have a dream to write, create and inspire, you should follow that dream and let nothing keep you from realizing it. Thank you to all the readers, writers, agents, partners and friends who have made this possible. We write for you.

--Georgia McBride, Publisher and Owner of Month9Books”

But the fun doesn't end there! I am also hosting a Month9Books author and I am so flippin' excited for this. I really rallied to feature her because Filipino pride! She's born in the Philippines and I've always wanted to spotlight her in here and now is that time.

Let's all welcome DOROTHY DREYER!

First, let's get to know her!

About Dorothy Dreyer

Dorothy Dreyer has always believed in magic. Born in Angeles City, Philippines, to a Filipino mother and American Father, Dorothy grew up a military brat, living in Massachusetts, South Dakota, Guam, New Jersey, and New York. She now lives in Frankfurt, Germany, with her husband, two teens, and two Siberian huskies. Dorothy not only writes books with some element of magic in them, but has a fondness for reading those kinds of books as well. She also enjoys movies, chocolate, take-out, and spending time with family and friends. She’s known to make a pretty sweet cupcake when she has the time. She also tends to sing sometimes, so keep her away from your Karaoke bars.

And here are her books!

My Writing Inspirations
by Dorothy Dreyer

I’ve been interesting in weaving tales for as long as I can remember. And throughout the years I’ve found many inspirations for developing my craft. I’m still molding my technique—and honestly, the map of a writer’s technique should be an ever-climbing upward curve, in my opinion.

My first writing inspiration was Judy Blume. She showed me that it was possible to hook a young reader and make them care about a protagonist and her story.

I was shown the importance of clear-cut writing by Michael Crichton. He never used overly complex descriptions or overwhelming prose which would weigh a story down to the point the reader would lose track of the plot. He kept it simple, and readers would fly through the pages of his books.

John Grisham showed me how having a clever plot added massive appeal to a book. I learned to love plot twists and big reveals and protagonists finding a way to squeeze out of tight spots.

Nora Roberts showed me that thrilling books could still hold intense romance and emotional depth, and how rich that element made a storyline.

JK Rowling is probably one of my most influential writers, in my mind. She reminded me of how much readers could invest themselves in characters and keep them in their hearts. And she showed me how cool it is to bring magic into books. And bring readers into magical worlds.

Two last inspirations are Hugh Laurie and Christopher Moore: both excellent storytellers who showed me how to weave laugh-out-loud humor into a tale.

I’m sure I’ll find more inspirations down the line, and I look forward to it. Maybe one day, I’ll be an inspiration to an aspiring writer out there. Along with self-indulgent vindication that would bring, it would definitely be cool.

Thank you so much for dropping by, Dorothy! Guys, go buy her books and I'm so excited to read them this weekend!
