Addicted to You
Title: Addicted to You
Author: Colina Brennan
Date of Publication: June 25, 2013

When twenty-one-year-old Leah Carter's latest one night stand burglarizes her apartment, her roommate forces her to attend therapy for sex addicts. Leah insists she isn't a sex addict; she just doesn't do relationships. After all, sooner or later, everyone lets you down.

At first, the group sessions are little more than an education on how to be promiscuous. Until she meets the newest addict—blue eyes, killer body, and a smile that tempts relapse.

Psychology student Will McLean is posing as a fellow addict while researching a case study on unusual addictions. But the more he learns about Leah, the more certain he is that his desire to break through her walls and unearth her secrets has nothing to do with his assignment.

As the uncertainties spike alongside the sexual tension, the only thing Leah knows for sure is that falling in love would be disastrous. Too bad love might be one addiction she can't kick.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Thank you to Giselle of Xpresso Book Tours and Colina Brennan for the review copy! This in no way affected my views of the novel.

Truth be told, I think this book warrants four stars. It was well-written, the characters were engaging and the plot was both familiar yet fresh. However, all throughout the novel, I was detached from the story and from the characters. I get where everyone's coming from and I fully support them and I want them to grow. But it was as if I was watching the characters and the story from a distance. I wasn't THAT immersed in the story and I didn't feel like I was there with them. This is all because of me though and I'm pretty sure most of you will enjoy this novel. I think that if I wasn't in that mood the day I read this, I would have given it four stars.

So what made me so detached from this novel? First, when I read that Will was Scottish, I groaned. It's just that I guess I've had my fair share of hot Scottish men in NA. Then I've also had my share of girls who pretend they don't care at all or derive intimacy not from emotions but from physical contact. But what's great about Addicted to You is that even though these characters have been done before, they were still enjoyable to read. Addicted to You is a short read and I read it so fast as the pacing of the story was wonderful and the characters, even with my initial issues, were fantastic. Will was sweet and swoony and Leah was grumpily awesome. She has sass and her quips were fantastic. Her friendship with her best friend was top-notch as well. Her motherly relationship with her younger brother was so touching too.

Moreover, this is my first sex addiction story. And while Leah isn't truly a sex addict but more of a no-relationship gal, I truly appreciated how Colina Brennan discussed and featured actual sex addicts in the story. Family issues are present as well in this novel as both our hero and heroine have dysfunctional families. It also tackled gender and sexuality and any novel dealing with that has brownie points from me.

But my favorite aspect of the novel was how their romance bloomed. Leah kept on pushing Will away while Will kept on trying to get Leah to take a chance on him. Will's a psychology student and I dig how he gets Leah not only because he studies people's behavior but because he also has almost similar experiences and that he sees right through her. While the novel is short, their romance didn't feel rushed. I also adored the secondary characters and how they ultimately helped Leah and Will get together too. Finn is the best!

Overall, Addicted to You was a not-so-graphic, well-plotted, enjoyable and satisfying new adult novel that packed several issues into its short run. I definitely recommend this to contemporary new adult romance fans!
