For my tour stop, I have a review of A Stiff Kiss and a giveaway! I immensely enjoyed A Stiff Kiss and I do hope you check it out and read it too!

A Stiff Kiss
Title: A Stiff Kiss
Author: Avery Olive
Publisher: Crescent Moon Press
Date of Publication: February 3, 2012
Genre: YA paranormal romance

Who knew kissing a corpse would change everything? Death always hits Xylia Morana too close to home, but she likes it that way. She hangs out with the terminally ill, attends random funerals, and every so often, when the weather is right, she sleeps in open graves. But after Landon Phoenix, the high school hottie, dies in Xylia's hands, she sneaks into the morgue to say goodbye. How could she know stealing a kiss from his corpse would wake him up? With Landon returned to the living and suddenly interested in Xylia, life has new meaning. But what Xylia doesn't realize is that by kissing Landon back to life, she's thrown Life and Death off balance. The underworld demands a body, and it might just have to be Xylia's this time.

No way should I be in the morgue. If I'm caught, I'll lose my job. My dad will probably get fired, too. He's been warned to keep me out of here.

The walls are lined with thick, square doors, clearly marked with numbers. I stop in front of the one I want. In the middle of that wall, at waist height, is number twelve. Beyond the door, lying on a sliding metal table, is the body of Landon Phoenix.

I've always had a crush on Landon, ever since freshman year when his family moved to Silver Springs. I've watched him grow into his looks, no longer a gangly boy with braces. And I've longed to hear my name roll off his tongue in that deep voice of his. To press my lips against his as he holds me in a tight embrace. To share the same air as him.

Though now, all those things are impossible. Except one. I can pull open the door, slide the table out, and at least for a moment I can share the same air, even though his lungs can no longer pull in that air.

I hesitate, my hand on the handle. Besides my mother, this will be the only other person who's died that I've really known. The others have just been people, random ones at that. The guy from the grocery store who jumped off Whibley Bridge into the icy waters below, the occasional patient of mine who'd succumbed to old age, and many, many others. But this is personal. This is someone I'd known. Or at least, someone I'd held secretly in my heart.

But I need to say goodbye.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Thank you to Shane of Itching for Books Blog Tours and Avery Olive for the review copy! Of course, this in no way affected my views of the novel and all you'll ever read are my honest thoughts.

I've always been a fan of romances featuring great divides. Time, life and death, good and bad, land and sea and all that stuff. That's why I'm into time travel romances, books featuring angels or demons, mermaid tales and love stories involving ghosts or death. And A Stiff Kiss definitely transcended (at some point) one of the great divides I love, death.

High school soccer star player Landon Phoenix just dies in the middle of their championship game. Xylia comes to the rescue with her dad, Dr. Morana, but they weren't able to save him. Xylia, having a massive crush on Landon, feel really sad and guilty for not being able to resuscitate him. Xylia goes to the morgue to say goodbye and ends up kissing him. She never thought it would wake Landon up. Now famous and completely healthy, Landon takes an interest in Xylia and feels a connection with her. Soon, they start spending some time together. But how much do they have of this borrowed time? Landon was supposed to die and the powers that be wants him back. Or Xylia.

Xylia has a unique and kind of creepy fixation with death. She attends random funerals, loves talking and spending time with sick and dying people and she even sleeps in cemeteries. She has her issues, yes, and she even wears all black. But darn if Xylia isn't such a funny, lovable and root-able heroine. Her issues made her the way she is, trying to understand something she has no hold of. I love her and her relationship with her dad, how much they love each other though they are both stressing each other out.

Another thing I enjoy so much is when the outcast, or the average girl no one particularly pays attention to, gets with the famous one, the star of the school. It's kind of like how I really enjoy reading romances with a celebrity as the plot. So when Landon gets attracted to Xylia, I had the giggles. But when he started getting to know her and liking her and then, eventually, loving her, I actually squealed. The way their attraction grew and how they slowly got to know each other was such a delight to read that A Stiff Kiss had me flipping the pages. Doesn't help that Landon was funny, understanding and sweet. So sweet.

The other characters were also lovely to read. The two reapers bantering and bickering were so fun, I want them on every scene! Just second to Xylia and Landon, of course. Evelyn, with her advice and being Xylia's confidante. Xylia's dad who can't even yell at Xylia even though he's so mad at her. Who believes her even though she tells him a person has risen from the dead and is breathing in the morgue. Dr. Stephanie Evans with her no-nonsense attitude and how she gets to Xylia even though Xylia pushes her away.

And I haven't told you the best thing about A Stiff Kiss yet! IT'S TOLD IN BOTH XYLIA'S AND LANDON'S POINT-OF-VIEW. Dual POVs <3 Reading how much Landon thinks about Xylia, how he starts to see her in a different light, how EVERYTHING.

Granted, the conflict was played up almost to the end, with most parts of the book dealing with Xylia and Landon's burgeoning romance. Not complaining here. Not at all. Have I already mentioned that I love their names? Not yet? There I said it. And sure, we all know they will get a happy ending because OF COURSE THEY WILL. But the journey to getting there was such an enjoyable romp and I couldn't care less that I know what's gonna happen.

For anyone wary, this is a clean read. But it still accomplished giving me the fuzzies and made me wish I also have a Landon of my own who would sleep in open graves with me. Hee. A sweet contemporary YA romance dealing with death and overcoming it with a kiss, A Stiff Kiss is such an enjoyable read I didn't notice it was already 4AM when I finished it. Time seemed to fly by so fast when you're having fun and I did have fun! I highly recommend this to contemporary YA romance lovers because take my word and you will surely have a smile or two or a grin or two or a lot while reading this. For those who are not into paranormal, don't get intimidated! I'm not a fan of paranormal too but I absolutely loved this.
